Cheltenham Jazz Festival 2012
I have to firstly apologise for the prolonged silence lately - it’s been an absolutely mad time at the moment with school photography and lots of business photography too! Here’s a photograph to explain why….
Yet again I was asked to be photographer for a school at the Jazz It Up! event at the Cheltenham Jazz Festival. The festival this year had performances by Paloma Faith and Jamie Cullum - two favourites of mine!
While snapping at Jazz It Up! I thought it appropriate to get some personal photography work in too. Using my new Nikkor 55-200mm lens I was able to get close up shots in perfect focus with quick shutter speed…. the lens is definitely a new favourite of mine for event photography! Perfect for the weddings and events I have with Boeing coming up over the next year…. things are looking good!

Coco Mademoiselle
J’adore this fragrance! I am branching my business out into commercial photography - I’ve done some before, but think it’s time to “LAUNCH” my commercial side! What better way to start this off by photographing Chanel? They are such a recognised brand and I thought I’d do the gorgeous bottle justice.
I have edited the colour variations lots - this adds the neutral colour effect to the image. This enhances the beautiful difference in the colours - cream and green. As for focusing, I have ensured the writing on the bottle is in focus, putting complete emphasis on the brand, the rest of the image blurred, but surrounding the brand logo beautifully.
Composition is odd, but I think the writing is framed beautifully, the bottle cutting across the frame at an angle to make the image very unique.

The Fly
I was out on a photoshoot today and while I waited for my clients I decided to take the opportunity to get some nature shots. This bush was right next to the place where I was planned to meet my clients, and there happened to be lots of insects/bugs on it! I approached them with a gentle nature, ensuring I didn’t scare them off.
It was perfect! The sun was shining down on this fly, but not so my shadow would cover it and scare it off. I was able to get so close, the fly almost “posing” for my shots.
This photograph is by far my favourite from the images I took because the composition places the leaf brilliantly within the frame, but not to off-centre the fly. My cropping skills have become very handy here!
I set a large aperture for this shot, using manual mode to control the blur over the background. This aperture allows the background to be blurred so crystal clear focus can be put onto the fly and leaf, the sunlight enhancing them even more.
